Cairns guide without directing.
Often found at points where mountain paths change, cairns mark a moment to pause, notice what matters, and choose your own way..
Cairn Coaching follows the same principle.
Through grounded, reflective conversation, clarity begins to emerge. From there, change can happen in a way that feels natural and unforced.
'Enchanté' - I’m Stephen
Originally from London and now based in
Morzine, the French Alps.
I work with people who want a grounded
space to pause and reflect on what’s
happening now, to shine a light on
what matters most to them, so they can
move toward the future they’d like to
create.
My coaching style is calm, reflective, and
centered on helping you find your own
way forward.
A simple place to begin.
Space to slow things down and decide what feels right.
A simple place to begin.
Space to slow things down and decide what feels right.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, burnt out, or unsure where to start, coaching doesn’t need to begin with a big commitment. The best place to begin is simply with a relaxed, complimentary conversation.A space to talk things through, ask questions, and see whether coaching feels like a good fit. There’s no pressure to continue, and no expectation that you arrive with a clear goal. Just a place to start.
You can read more about the Discovery Call and other coaching conversations below.
Why Cairn...
A cairn is a small stack of stones, often found in mountains or wild places. They’ve been used for centuries to mark a path, to offer orientation in poor visibility, or simply to show that someone has passed this way before.A cairn doesn’t tell you where to go.
It doesn’t carry you.
It simply helps you pause, take stock, and decide your next step. That’s why the name felt right. Why cairns matterIn the mountains, cairns are often used when the path isn’t obvious. When conditions change, when the terrain becomes unclear, or when you need reassurance that you’re still heading in the right direction. They’re simple, human markers in complex environments.Coaching can serve a similar purpose. It isn’t about fixing or forcing outcomes. It’s about slowing down, creating perspective, and finding steadiness when things feel confusing, overwhelming, or out of balance.A personal connectionCairns are part of both the landscapes I live in now and the places I come from. They’re common in the Alps, where I spend much of my time outdoors, and they’re also deeply rooted in Irish culture and history. For me, they represent continuity, grounding, and quiet guidance. Not answers, but support. What Cairn Coaching is aboutCairn Coaching exists to offer space when things feel unclear.A place to pause.
A place to reflect.
A place to decide how you want to move forward, in your own way, at your own pace.Sometimes all that’s needed is a moment of orientation.
A reminder that you’re not lost. You’re just finding your way.If you’re curious and want to talk things through, a discovery call is simply a chance to see whether this feels like the right fit.

A little about me…
I came to coaching through working in high-pressure environments and gradually realising that the way I was living and working wasn’t sustainable for me. I’ve lived with type 1 diabetes for over 25 years and have always led an active, outdoor lifestyle. Managing my health while staying active has shaped how I think about balance, energy, and not taking good health for granted.I followed my passion for snowboarding to the mountains, which is how I ended up living in the French Alps and spending time in seasonal environments. Alongside professional pressure and long-term health, this outdoor life has given me a strong sense of how important it is to live in a way that feels aligned, not just busy or impressive. Most of my working life has been in construction, in well-paid, long-term roles as a quantity surveyor. From the outside, it looked stable and sensible. From the inside, the pace and responsibility slowly took their toll. Burnout in that world is very real and often invisible until you’re already running on empty. I’ve experienced that first-hand, and I’ve seen the same patterns across many different lives and industries.Over time, I made the decision, twice, to relocate from the UK and step away from work that no longer felt right. Those changes weren’t about escape or reinvention. They came from recognising that something was out of balance, and choosing to listen to that before things reached breaking point.

Who I tend to work with
The people I work with are often capable, thoughtful, and outwardly functioning, but carrying a lot underneath. Burnout and overwhelm are usually at the centre, even if they show up in different ways.Burnout and pressure
Whether it’s construction, high-responsibility roles, or the intensity of seasonal environments, burnout often looks similar. Tiredness, loss of clarity, and a sense of constantly pushing through. Coaching offers a pause. A chance to step back, regain perspective, and decide what actually needs to change.Relocation, transition, and realignment
Moving country, changing direction, or questioning a previously “safe” path often happens because something feels out of balance. Coaching can help you make sense of those transitions and move forward in a way that feels grounded rather than reactive.Health, energy, and long-term conditions
Living with diabetes or another ongoing health condition adds a constant background load. When life becomes busy or demanding, that load can quietly turn into exhaustion. Coaching creates space to slow down, acknowledge what you’re carrying, and find ways of living that feel supportive rather than depleting.
How I work
My focus is on reducing overwhelm and helping you reconnect with what matters, not by pushing harder, but by slowing things down and starting from the right place.I don’t offer advice or ready-made answers. I offer time, attention, and thoughtful conversation. Space to explore what’s going on for you, make sense of it, and choose your next steps deliberately. You don’t need to arrive with a clear plan. We start where you are.If you’re unsure whether coaching is the right step, a discovery call is simply a chance to talk things through and see whether it feels like a good fit.

About Coaching Conversations
Coaching doesn’t need to start with certainty or a long-term commitment.Coaching conversations are simply different ways of creating space, depending on what feels right for you.
“If you’re unsure, begin with a Discovery call.”
Discovery call

It’s a chance to ask questions, share what’s been on your mind, and get a feel for whether working together would be helpful. There’s no pressure to continue, and no expectation that you arrive with a clear goal.If it feels right and time allows, we may use the space afterwards to begin exploring what’s brought you here.15 minutes - Complimentary
